Oh Sweet Nothing!

It is a lovely rainy northwest day. I am sitting behind the counter at the local coffee shop. I had a whole rush of customers earlier and now things are quiet. Tables have been wiped down, chairs pushed back. Espresso machine has been rinsed, and now I am waiting for the last ten minutes of my shift to finish up.
Two guys are playing chess in the corner. They are smart asses as well. It's fun to listen and watch them. My brother is here as well. He is bothering the chess players.
I am looking forward to going home tonight and watching movies with my mother. We might even make some food. I think we are going to be digging around in the freezer at some point just to see what the hell we have in there. Should be an adventure...

So easy to love...

My bunny, Mopsy, died yesterday morning. She died peacefully and comfortably in her cage filled with hay. Everyone gave her last pats on the head and she seemed to be fine. In rabbit years she was probably like, 90? Yeah. She was ancient for a rabbit. She lived a long eventful life, and wreaked havoc on everyone's lives. It's weird to wake up and not find a rabbit sneaking out to eat dog food, or her sitting on your feet so she can get a hug. I miss her a lot. Here's hoping that she is eating all the dog food she wants in bunny heaven, and harassing dogs as well. Rest in Peace my little bun.

If you see me walkin' down the street...

It is an overcast and windy day in the little seaport town I reside. I kind of like it. Definitely different from the redundant summer days I experienced in Cali.
At this moment I am listening to Dionne Warwick and worrying about my bunny. I believe she is fairly close to death. She has slowed down considerably in the past few days. She hasn't eaten or drank any of her water. She is nearly nine... so it's not like she is a young spring flower. The rabbit had a long eventful life. It is definitely her time to go. My mother expressed that she didn't feel quite ready yet, but also knew the bun was ancient. Definitely part of the circle of life.
Today I will be volunteering at the BR. Where I will hang out with one of my favorite people, and make espresso for ungrateful teenagers. It's odd to think that I am no longer one of the teenagers who hangs around the place being useless, but am now a 20 something. A 20 something who is no longer a part of their world. Probably for the best. I think I like being 20 years old better than 16.
I am thinking about making some falafel for lunch.

Home and actually updating for once!

I update this thing rarely and yet I feel that I should. Does anyone even read this stupid thing? Quite possibly not. Maybe I should link this blog to my facebook... see what happens. This may become more popular than my LJ. Or maybe I should just become seriously awful and get a tumblr account. I will think about that for another day.

As you may notice the date, it is May 22nd. I have just finished my first semester at Mills College. It was a bit scary at first, but probably one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I met awesome people, was taught by brilliant professors, and got to study in the coolest library. Yes. I'm a dork. I think studying in a library with an amazing collection is cool. I need to get a life or something...

Since arriving home, I have walked all over town (for the fun of it!). I saw Iron Man 2 at the theater. I have been reading everything on the shelves at home. I also started a new knitting project! It is going to be a bright pink slouchy hat. It is making me quite happy to knit it. I think it will go well with my bright blue scarf.

I have been reading cook books since I got back from school. Being away from the kitchen for three months or so can take a toll on a person. My second night back, I made Spaghetti Carbonara. I used bacon instead of pancetta, but it was fantastic, and my mother adored me. I am thinking about exploring more of italian cooking this summer. Perhaps have my brother show me how to make his marinara sauce. That stuff tastes amazing...
